26 Giugno 2008, AMD ha oggi annunciato i nuovi driver Catalyst che introducono incrementi prestazionali se abbinati con schede professionali ATI FireGL. La disponibilità di questo driver per linux migliorato (8.49.7) rappresenta un significativo salto per i clienti che cercano prestazioni migliori nei programmi CAD o nelle applicazioni di creazione di contenuti digitali in ambiente Linux; perchè riesce ad offrire circa un 33% di performance OpenGL in più rispetto al driver precedente.
"Gli acceleratori grafici ATI FireGL battono i concorrenti in quanto a performance a qualsiasi prezzo." ha detto Janet Matsuda, direttore del settore Grafica Professionale ad AMD. "In passato abbiamo limitato questa affermazione ai soli ambienti Microsoft Windows XP e Microsoft Windows Vista. Ora, le soluzioni ATI FireGL superano i concorrenti anche in ambiente Linux".
Gli acquirenti di schede grafiche ATI FireGL che usano Linux possono trarre vantaggio dall'aumento di performance sia usando l'economica ATI FireGL V3600 sia l'ultra high-end ATI FireGL V8650, che possiede 2GB di memoria video. Inoltre il driver aggiornato è compatibile con le schede Radeon. Availability of this enhanced 8.49.7 Linux driver represents a significant leap for Linux customers seeking improved performance of CAD and digital content creation applications that can offer up to approximately 33 percent faster OpenGL performance than the previous driver.

ATI FireGL graphics customers using Linux can take advantage of performance enhancements whether using the value ATI FireGL V3600 or the ultra high-end ATI FireGL V8650, which comes with the industry’s largest, 2 GB frame-buffer memory configuration. Additionally, the updated driver is compatible with ATI Radeon graphics. Version 8.49.7 of the ATI Catalyst Driver is now available for download via the ATI Catalyst Linux software suite at http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html .
The latest family of ATI FireGL products, introduced last year, continues to win praise across the globe after capturing Tom’s Hardware Guide’s prestigious “Editor’s Choice” award in addition to similar praise and awards from 3dprofessor.org, HotHardware.com, 3D Pro and Digital Arts magazine.
